Perfect CL

Easy enough to find if you follow the instructions. Approach roads are a tad narrow but with plenty of passing places. Site entrance wide enough to get in easily then onto an unmade approach track which swings round and down and onto the site itself. Yes the site slopes- but not too much- it's nestled on a little hillside with a copse of trees behind and open views into a little secluded valley with small fields and woodland and almost no signs of civilisation- just a couple of horses and plenty of rabbits, hares, birds.... . We managed to get up onto the right-hand side without much trouble. (new hard-core was put in the tyre-tracks whilst we were there so probably even easier now) TV and phone reception up here on the right-hand side OK. Robin, the owner came by after we had set-up and we had a nice chat about the area, local pub recommendations, and the walks on his land. Water and chemical disposal at the entrance to the CL. rubbish needs to be taken to the bins at the side of the road- so best done when you're driving out for the day. We didn't have the best weather whilst there but I bet on a nice sunny day, it's a piece of heaven! Highly recommended- will definitely be staying here again if in the area.

No Chickens!

We loved this site for all the reasons given by other reviewers. It's what I call a 'proper' CL. One or two additional comments we can make are :- Whilst the access track wasn't as bumpy as I was expecting it is positively 'single track no passing places' so observation of the 12 o'clock rule for arrival/departure is strongly advised! We were in the right hand pitching area and it is indeed a steep pull up ( I was dreaming of a motorised Aquaroll !) However we had no problems at all with traction in our 2 wheel drive saloon, this despite the heavy rain we had at times. It seems the ground naturally drains well so please don't be discouraged if you don't have a 4 x 4. The paths described by others don't show on the Ordnance Survey map because they are permissive paths - this threw me at first but there is indeed a nice path running north east from the CL field to connect with further permissive paths through the grounds of Bayfield Hall. From the site name and the description - 'working farm' my wife was concerned about the smell of chickens. There is indeed (arable) farmland all around but it looked to me like Chicken Barn is just the name of the owners house - certainly we didn't see or hear one on our entire visit ! Just hares, rabbits and deer.

This site is the reason we own a caravan! Peace and tranquillity, views, welcoming and helpful owners, walks from the doorstep and lots to see and do locally. Tricky to find and few level pitches, yet this site has character and a draw that will bring you back again and again

Nice views with total peace

After taking 1 hour to find Chicken Barn ( the Sat Nav gets you within a mile but site is NOT on the post code given and site is poorly sign posted ) The long driveway is very rough so take it easy. Mr Combe is very friendly and welcoming. All pitches are slopping so you will need leveling blocks etc ( ours was at maximum of front steadies ) There are 4 pitches at top of slope ( a bit dicey if it is wet and you don,t have 4 x4 plus there is no water tap up there so it could be difficult ) and 2 pitches to left , again on slope. Once you are there this site is very quiet and peaceful. We had 4 great days there in beautiful weather. There is plenty of wild life including Deer , Hare , and all sorts of birds. Would definitely go back now we know where it is !

Lovely site

Spent a week here and loved it so peaceful and quiet surrounded by countryside. On a clear night you see so many stars it's magical being from a city not something I've ever seen. You can walk across the fields from the site into woodland and footpaths for miles so very good for dog owners like myself. There is also a big country house within walking distance although we did not visit it there is a cafe and garden centre there. be careful when using a sat nav it will take you past the site to another house, when pulling off the main road you drive down a track and turn right just before the main house and down a tight track onto the cl. You can either pitch on the left with 2 hookups which we did but quite hilly so levelling blocks are a must. There are also 4 hookups on the right but this is up a steep hill so some may struggle but it is very flat once up the hill, this seemed to be the most popular area as 4 caravans were up the hill and just us at the bottom on our own all week which we didn't mind as they seemed very cramped up there. Tv signal is difficult and we did need our satellite dish other reviews say signal is better on the hill. Owner very friendly and came the day we got there to collect money and tell us the local walks etc never bothered us again the rest of the week. Beautiful views and also paddocks with horses to whatch if you like peace and quiet this the site for you.

Directions : Turn right off A148 Holt - King's Lynn, about 3 miles past Holt onto B1156 signposted Langham, Blakeney. In 1 mile continue over crossroads, within 0.5 mile turn right towards Holt, in 270 metres turn left onto track. Site is on the right, near the house within 0.25 mile.
