Brackenthwaite Farm is located on the border between Lancashire and Cumbria, nestled within a superb and tranquil rural setting of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) yet still within very easy reach of local attractions including RSPB Leighton Moss and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve. Within the AONB and often of particular interest to our visitors are the variety of nature walks available for different abilities. Other points of interest not to be missed are Arnside Tower, Silverdale Beach and Jenny Brown's Point, The Fairy Steps, and Leighton Hall Estate where you can choose from entry to the Garden and Woodland Walk with Bird of Prey display only (May to September) or combine that with a guided tour of Leighton Hall itself – an impressive stately home that can trace its history back to mediaeval times.

Further afield is the Lake District (30-minute drive north to Windermere) or the historic city of Lancaster and Morecambe town (less than 30 minutes south). Lancaster Castle is worthy of a visit and the views from Morecambe across the Bay can be totally breath-taking. You might even be tempted to take a walk along the promenade with an ice cream to really soak-up the experience.

Please note that the CL site is situated in a dip surrounded by hills on most sides and so your TV / Radio signals may be poor even with a satellite dish and booster.

Away from it all – what a brilliant site, just idyllic. Wonderful setting , we spent a lovely sunny evening with a very friendly herd of cows for company.”

“Utopia!”

“Have just returned from a brilliant week with our caravan. Lovely picturesque site. Weather for most people was wet and windy but it was only weather and not a problem for us. Thank you to Matthew for warm welcome and also a surprise to see the Reindeer. Area is a must to see plenty of lovely walking and RSPB Leighton Moss only 2 miles away. Will definitely be back.”

“Had a wonderful time on your C.L, super weather and brilliant wildlife. Look forward to returning in the not too distant future.”

“Just enjoyed another stay at this wonderful CL. Lovely area for walking and great views. Great dog walk available too. Very convenient for driving into Arnside or Silverdale. Lovely site with 4 hard standings and 2 grass pitches, electric available. Visited a number of times and will continue to do so, love it!”

“Been coming here for many years and really like it. Always a friendly welcome. Lovely views from site, often see deer in the next field. Wonderful area, good for wildlife, always tranquil and interesting limestone scenery.”

“We wanted to visit Leighton Moss RSPB and chose this CL due to its proximity. We were very impressed we had a lovely greeting from Matthew upon arrival. We thought the facilities were excellent. We have visited many CLs and we rate this as one of the best. Very quiet lovely views we hope to return again Thank you.”

“What can I say about this Beautiful location, me and my partner were greeted by Mathew who showed us everything we needed to know about. Lovely pitch just what we like and an excellent Dog walking facility. Will be back again soon :)”

Beautifully situated CL

This is a real gem of a CL. There are both hard standing and grass pitches. The views are delightful - and the sunsets visible from here are spectacular. The grass is really well kept. The location is great for cycling, walking, birdwatching at Leighton Moss RSPB reserve. Silverdale and Arnside are close by and there is a lovely pub a short drive away - the Wheatsheaf at Beetham. We hope to return.

Beautiful Tranquil Site

Stayed here for the first time, though we know the area well from having a static caravan in the past. What a beautiful tranquil site within some of the best countryside. Easy access to the site from the M6 following the clear directions in the handbook. We were made very welcome by the owner who showed us to the CL field which has a choice of grass or hard standing pitches all with EHU. As we were the only ones on site for the first night, we had our choice of all pitches. The views are wonderful with many footpaths direct from site. Very peaceful with only the sound of birds or an occasional passing car. We will definitely be returning to this lovely place

A little hideaway

45 minutes from home and this little CL was just a little gem found for those of us who are in the main self sufficient. On arrival, Matthew met us, he was very welcoming and highlighted the Nature Reserve close by for dog walks and also made us aware of other walks in the area. He then left us to it after telling us to pitch where we wanted. Hardstanding and grass pitches available, typical winter ground underfoot but firm enough and not holding any water. We had the site to ourselves so doggy was a allowed some freedom when leaving the MH for our walk and loved rolling around in the grass which I assume would be lovingly maintained from springtime but being winter had some length to it but was still tidy enough. Site itself along with house and holiday cottages is for sale but owners are still looking after it well. Access was very easy and views from pitch were lovely with open fields, limestone walls and herds of Deer at dusk. Very little noise apart from bird song and the odd passing car. True night darkness also with no lights on site, torches necessary for the last dog walk of the day. Rubbish and recycling point at entrance onto site, ehu available. Water is via a tap at the gate and chemical waste in the next field but readily accessible. At £15 per night, we judged this site as one of our visit again sites, close to home and lots of walks in the area.

Away from it all

What a brilliant site, just idyllic. Wonderful setting , we spent a lovely sunny evening with a very friendly herd of cows for company.
